Of Counsel to a 100 year old firm which provides a full line of legal services through its 200 lawyers in offices in Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C.

Mr. Abbey was resident in the firm's Deerfield office and a member of its Corporate Practice Group.

BAXTER INTERNATIONAL, INC., Deerfield, Illinois 1965 to 1993

Baxter is a Fortune 100, multinational manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies. Mr. Abbey joined the Law Department as Attorney 1965 1969, became General Counsel 1969 1972, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary 1972 1975, Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel 1975 1993. Managed Baxter's 65 attorney Law Department. Supervised the Company's government affairs, aviation, security, real estate and corporate services functions. President of the Baxter Foundation, Chairman of the Environmental Review Board and Baxter's Political Action Committee, also a member of the Benefits Administration Committee.

MCLANE, CARLETON, GRAF, GREENE & BROWN, Manchester, New Hampshire 1957 to 1965

Associate in general practice law firm with emphasis on litigation, taxation and advising small businesses.

Mr. Abbey has served as a Director of: The Firstar Bank Northshore, Deerfield, Illinois, The Food and Drug Law Institute, The Puerto Rico Community Foundation, The Puerto Rico-U.S.A. Foundation, The Council for Puerto Rico-U.S. Affairs, The Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois, The National Committee for Quality Health Care and the Health Industry Manufacturers Association.

He also served as a member of The Northwestern University School of Law Corporate Counsel Center Advisory Board, The Visiting Committee of the University of Chicago Law School, The Industrial Advisory Committee of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, The Conference Board's Council of Chief Legal Officers and Legal Quality Council, the Business Advisory Committees of B.U.I.L.D. Inc. (an agency working with inner city youths) and Interfaith House (an organization providing medical care to the homeless), the American, Illinois and Chicago Bar Associations and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries.

He is a member of the National Roster of Commercial Arbitrators, Large Complex Case Panel and the International Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association, the Chicago Panel of Distinguished Neutrals of the Center for Public Resources' Center for Dispute Resolution, the New York Stock Exchange Panel of Arbitrators, the Panel of Lanham Act Neutrals and the Mediator Panel of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.

His alternate dispute resolution training includes AAA Neutrals' Conference, 2/04; CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution Mediator Training, 10/03; AAA Arbitrator II Training, 2/01; AAA International Arbitrator Training Workshop, 6/00; AAA Commercial Arbitrator Training Workshop and AAA Neutrals' Retreat, 10/98; AAA Mediation Training Seminar (Tom Colosi), 5/94; mediation training seminars sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association and The Mediation Council of Illinois; AAA Basic Arbitrator Training; training sessions for Mandatory Court-Annexed Arbitration Programs, Cook and Lake County, IL; and Better Business Bureau Basic Arbitrator Training.
