Mr. Abbey joined the Law Department as Attorney 1965 1969, became General Counsel 1969 1972, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary 1972 1975, Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel 1975 1993. Managed Baxter's 65 attorney Law Department. Supervised the Company's government affairs, aviation, security, real estate and corporate services functions. President of the Baxter Foundation, Chairman of the Environmental Review Board and Baxter's Political Action Committee, also a member of the Benefits Administration Committee.

He also served as a member of The Northwestern University School of Law Corporate Counsel Center Advisory Board, The Visiting Committee of the University of Chicago Law School, The Industrial Advisory Committee of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, The Conference Board's Council of Chief Legal Officers and Legal Quality Council, the Business Advisory Committees of B.U.I.L.D. Inc. (an agency working with inner city youths) and Interfaith House (an organization providing medical care to the homeless), the American, Illinois and Chicago Bar Associations and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries.
